Discordance-based scoring

We've added a new scoring mode for MCQs: discordance-based scoring.

Inspired by grading methods used in medical schools and healthcare training programs, this mode introduces symmetrical treatment of correct and incorrect choices: identifying that a choice is correct and identifying that a choice is incorrect carry the same value in the assessment.

Unlike classic scoring, which only evaluates ticked choices, discordance-based scoring takes into account both ticked and unticked choices. Each gap between the expected answer and the given answer is counted as a discordance:

  • an incorrect choice that was ticked;

  • or a correct choice that was left unticked.

The points for the question are then calculated based on the number of discordances found.

Scoring setup

In the Configure step, select the scoring mode to apply to all MCQ/SCQ questions in the exam: Discordance-based scoring instead of Classic scoring.

Define every possible case for calculating points awarded based on:

  • the number of choices in the question

  • and the number of discordances found in the learner's answer

This approach lets you reproduce the main scoring scales used in medical education (PS50, PS1/n, DS, PACES, SIDES) while offering the flexibility to create your own grading rules.
